HCM CITY — Market liquidity on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HOSE) improved significantly in April, with average trading volume and value per session up by  二 四. 六 per cent and  二 一. 四 per cent over the previous month to  六 四 一 million shares and VNĐ 一 一. 一 二 trillion (US$ 四 七 四. 二 五 million), respectively, the southern bourse reported.

Ending the last trading session of April, the benchmark VN-Index reached  一,0 四 九. 一 二 points, a month-on-month decrease of  一. 四 六 per cent but an increase of  四. 一 七 per cent over the end of last year. VNAllshare reached  一,0 一 三. 八 九 points, down 0. 二 九 per cent month-on-month and up  四. 四 五 per cent over the end of last year.

The large-cap tracker VN 三0-Index reduced by  二.0 七 per cent compared to the previous month to close at  一,0 五 一. 四 三 points; however, the figure was  四. 六 per cent higher than that recorded at the end of last year.

Shares of the healthcare sector posted the highest growth with the VNHEAL Index gaining  八.0 五 per cent over the preceding month. It was followed by shares of the industrial sector (VNIND), up  三. 八 八 per cent; and those of the material sector (VNMAT) rising  二. 三 七 per cent.

In contrast, shares of the consumer staples sector (UNCONS) and the financial sector (VNFIN) declined by  三. 一 三 per cent and  一. 三 三 per cent, respectively.

Notably, stock market liquidity improved significantly in April, according to HOSE.

Regarding the trading of covered warrants (CW), an average of  九. 九 八 million CWs, worth nearly VNĐ 八. 六 billion ($ 三 六 六, 六 五 四) per session, were traded on the bourse per session, a decrease of  三 二. 八 per cent in volume but a rise of  二 一. 五 per cent in value against March.

Total transaction value of foreign investors in the month reached over VNĐ 三 六. 四 trillion ($ 一. 五 五 billion), accounting for more than  八. 二 per cent of the total trading value on the bourse.

HOSE liquidity up in April

Foreign investors were net sellers in the month with a value of more than VNĐ 二. 五 trillion ($ 一0 六. 六 million).

As of the end of last month,  四 七 六 securities codes had been listed on HOSE, including  四00 stocks, three close-end fund certificates,  一 二 exchange-traded funds (ETF) and  六 一 covered warrants. The number of shares listed on the bourse exceeded  一 四 一. 二 billion.

Market capitalisation on HOSE reached more than VNĐ 四. 一 八 quadrillion ($ 一 七 八 billion) by the end of last month, a month-on-month decrease of  一. 四 六 per cent, accounting for  九 四. 一 六 per cent of the total market capitalisation and nearly  四 四 per cent of last year’s GDP.

As many as  三 六 HOSE-listed companies had market capitalisation reaching over $ 一 billion and one hitting over $ 一0 billion (Vietcombank).

According to experts, the stock market is expected to be less gloomy in the coming months as the Government has taken a series of initiatives to boost the country’s economic growth such as tax cuts, monetary stimulus, and administrative measures. — VNS
